Is that Hendrix recording with Mitch Mitchell or Buddy Miles? I appreciate Miles but (as a fellow drummer) I could listen to Mitchell all day, every day and not get sick of his drumming.
(Oh, and even as a drummer, I completely respect and enjoy Jimi's guitar playing and song writing.)
I don't care if Steve Vai played with Frank Zappa - that guy's playing has all the soul of a used ashtray. Now I think about it, the ashtray probably has more. Apologies to all the used ashtrays out there for the insult.
snoho - it's with Buddy Miles. You can really hear the difference on teh topening track, Stone Free, on this live set. It's just straight-ahead funky drumming. But it also opens up something in Hendrix, he just expands into it more. (Mind - Mitch is still the best)
