I love this too, especially when accompanied by a gospel choir. I'm not a fan of gospel music, but the singing is exuberant and, as you put it, lifts the heart. There are many great examples of gospel choirs singing their hearts out on secular songs, and one of my very favorite examples is on R. Kelly's "Storm is over now". Moves me to tears sometimes.
I cannot think of specific example right now because my brain no workie but I have a record of early hits by Aretha Franklin. Man, can that woman sing. On my stereo she can practically rattle the windows; I wish I could have heard her in real life in the studio in the Sixties.
